New Baby Starter Kit

Preparing for a new arrival? Remember: You don't have to buy everything at once; some purchases can wait till weeks or even months after the baby is born. Here are the must-haves; think of it as your baby starter kit – especially for the New York dwelling space constrained!

  • Infant car seat. Even though it’s technically not required, most hospitals won't even let you take your baby home without one!
  • Bed. It doesn't have to be a crib; you could start with a bassinet or co-sleeper depending on your planned sleep strategy.
  •  Clothes. Start simple. In the beginning, all you need are basics. My “must have” favorite?  Side snap onesies – and look for organic cotton.
  • Diapers & diaper bag. Be prepared for outings with a diaper bag stocked with diapers, barrier cream and wipes.
  • Personal care. A gentle foam wash and some diaper cream, along with warm water and a sponge, should do the trick.
  • Bottles. Everyone needs bottles occasionally, but don't invest in too many till you figure out your favorite – every mom seems to have one. Basic starter kits are a smart first purchase.
